| Description: | Adva Center was founded in 1991 by academics active in three social movements: the feminist movement, the Arab rights movement and the Jewish Mizrahi movement. Adva works to promote equality of opportunity and human rights among men and women, Ashkenazim and Mizrahim, Arabs and Jews, and other social and ethnic groups living in Israel. Adva Center conducts policy analysis and publishes reports designed to increase awareness of social justice issues. Adva's work influences the actions of government officials and stimulates interest and debate among academics, advocacy organizations and the general public. |
| Programs: | Adva Center's major programs include: a. analyzing the state budget and its social implications; b. issuing policy analysis reports on education, health care, housing and welfare; c. organizing conferences, workshops and coalitions, designed to increase awareness of social equity issues. Adva works closely with government officials and advocacy organizations, providing them with information integral to creating social change. Adva works on behalf of underrepresented communities in Israel, drawing attention to their social rights and government policy regarding their rights. Adva's staff consists of six Israelis, with extensive backgrounds in social activism, sociology and economics. |

Biography of the Main Person: | Dr. Yossi Dahan lectures in philosophy and law. His involvement in social justice issues for over a decade stems from his general belief that the laws of the State and the opportunities of the society must benefit all, and that social cohesion is a necessary ingredient of social life. He has participated in numerous parliamentary committee hearings and government commissions, in addition to making many television and radio appearances concerning subjects such as educational opportunity, poverty and cultural diversity. |
