| Description: | The Alzheimer's Association of Israel is an organization of family members of sufferers of Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders. Founded in 1988 by a local self-help group and registered in 1990, its aim is to create a framework for the distribution of information and provision of emotional support for families. This done through support and self-help groups, open house programs, telephone hotlines, as well as by providing information for the public, and raising awareness of the illness and the severe problems it causes. The association is also involved in lobbying in the Knesset and establishing community services. |
| Programs: | The Alzheimer's Association of Israel organizes local self-help groups, open houses and help-line activities. It is organized in 23 branches all over the country. We would like to expand our activities to other districts and cities, as well as create self support groups in the Arab sector and among new immigrants from Russia At the same time we aim to develop an Information Center to promote awareness of the disease among the public, with the cooperation of hospitals, local social services and care centers, expand the rights of the demented and their families, and collect funds to expand care centers, and information and research centers. |

- 1. Establishing a national support network for family members.
- 2. Increasing public awareness of the problems (personal, social and economic) of Alzheimer's sufferers, and lobbying in the Knesset.
- 3. Developing special projects for sufferers and their families to improve quality of life.

| Future Objectives: |
- 1. Creating a caring and supportive environment for the sufferer and his family at home. Training the volunteers to interact with sufferers and their families.
- 2. Increase awareness of the disease and the problems, increase the number of branches and self-support groups.
- 3. Negotiate with authorities and lobbying in the Knesset for increased rights and services.
