| Description: | Since it’s founding in 1964 by Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva De Rothschild, Batsheva has become one of the most influential cultural role models in Israel. The appointment of Ohad Naharin as Artistic Director in 1990 launched Batsheva into a new era. Naharin’s vision has lead Batsheva to new artistic heights and worldwide critical acclaim.Very acitive in the community, Batsheva maintains a proactive outreach program which is spearheaded by the Ensemble which offer young audiences all over Israel an equal opportunity to an exciting and fresh exposure to the art of dance. With over 200 annual performances in Israel and abroad, Batsheva is proud to be considered Israel’s leading ambassador. |
| Programs: | A compact and dynamic organization, Batsheva is applauded worldwide in the most prestigious theaters and festivals; including the BAM, Lincoln Center and Jacob’s Pillow festivals, London’s Barbican Centre, and Paris’s Theatre de la Ville. Annually, Batsheva and the Batsheva Ensemble perform for more than 60,000 school children and youth at over 180 performances. In addition to to the many workshops, seminars and holiday programs faciliated by Batsheva, the company hosts hundreds of visitors from around the world at its studios for interactive discussions, behind the scenes tours and performances. |

Biography of Dr. Hadassah Shani: | Dr. Shani has a distinguished teaching and publishing career specializing in Comparative Arts Studies. Her affiliations include: being on the boards of MATAN - Center for Fringe Theater, The America-Israel Cultural Foundation, The Recanati Foundation, The Tel Aviv Cinematheque, the Israel National Lottery. Dr. Shani is also a professional film editor. |
