| Description: | The Amuta was founded in 1950. Two thirds of prisoners from Haifa who have served their sentences in Israeli prisons know us very well, and many of them now function as productive citizens. A basic education is given to those who never had the chance to learn. We also give vital and immediate assistance to released prisoners, often bypassing bureaucracy. We provide food, medicine, clothing and lodging, and refer those who require drug rehabilitation to relevant bodies, as well as assisting them in finding jobs. |
| Programs: | 1. The "Perach" project for children of prisoners and others. 2. Our uncompromising struggle against drug abuse, the terrible epidemic which constantly undermines the foundation on which the State of Israel is based. We desperately need assistance in order to provide released prisoners with a better quality of life. |
| Accomplishments: |
- 1. Assistance to released prisoners who leave jail having no home to return to.
- 2. Rehabilitation by providing employment to prisoners who have never worked in a regular job.
- 3. Taking care of prisoners' children and spouses during their incarceration.
|
| Future Objectives: |
- 1. Hostel for homeless people - Haifa is the only town in Israel with no residential solution for homeless people. Former prisoners found sleeping in the streets are returned to jail.
- 2. On-the-job training for a period of 6 months; a special track, in cooperation with employers who are supporters of our association.
- 3. A fund for financing current, urgent expenses for the few months following the release of prisoners.

In the past, he undertook to rehabilitate many prisoners on a personal basis. Today, he performs this work within the framework of the Amuta. He has written many books, some on the subject of prisoners' rehabilitation, and is well known in Haifa, who has brought the Amuta to the awareness of the residents of Haifa.
